How the progress is calculated depends on the type of Key Result / KPI and how the Key Result was set up

Progress is measured between the Start Value, the latest value you have added, and the Target Value

Progress is updated manually using the Key Result menus
KPI based Key Results
There are 3 ways to set up the Key Result with a KPI
Latest Value - Progress is measured between the Start Value, the latest KPI value, and the Target Value
Averaged Over Period - Progress is measured between the Start Value, the Average of all KPI values in the period, and the Target Value
Summed Over Period - Progress is the ratio of the Sum of all KPI values in period and the Target
Example 1
New MRR values are available up to Nov and there are 3 different Key Results for Q4
- Start Value $8k
- Oct $12k
- Nov $13k
Latest Value
- Increase New MRR to $15k in a month
- Progress is 71%
- $13k is 71% from $8k to the Target of $15k
Average Over Period
- Increase New MRR to $15k in a month
- Progress is 64%
- $12.5k (average of $12k and $13k) is 64% from $8k to the Target of $15k
Summed Over Period
- Achieve $40k New MRR in Q4
- Progress is 62%
- Current total for Q4 is $25k (Oct + Nov) which is 62% of the Target of $40k
Example 2
Churn is a Percentage so cannot be summed, so there is only two Key Result for Q4
- Start Value 5.6%
- Oct 5.8%
- Nov 5.2%
Latest Value
- Reduce churn to 4%
- Progress is 25%
- 5.2% is 25% from 5.6% and the start of the period and Target of 4%
Averaged Over Period
- Reduce churn to 4%
- Progress is 6%
- 5.5% is 6% from 5.6% and the start of the period and Target of 4%
