The standard setting is that only actions within the check-in UI count as a check-in - see How to check in a Key Result, To-do or KPI
There is an option to allow changes to the Confidence / Progress / Status made anywhere in the App to also count as a check-in.
NOTE Only changes made by the owner will be used, and any negative changes will not prompt for a comment to explain.
